My internet connection at home has been wreaking havoc for over a month now. That is part of why my posts have been erratic for a while. I hope to catch up on everything during this long holiday weekend.
I'd say its about time you met the Jacksons. I know Brett well enough and have met enough cool people through him to assure you that he is a real person (not an alien). He loves a good martini - though watch out for his flying martini olives!
Its that time again! The In the Flesh reading is tonight at 8pm at Happy Ending Lounge. Get there early and if you haven't been before, definitely check it out. The last reading I posted on was a laugh riot!
I had lunch with Toby and Patti today. We are all unmarried and without children, however, we spent a good 10 minutes at the beginning of lunch talking about our respective blogs. It seems this is what the new single lifestyle is all about. Blogs are the new "pseudo-children."
Its been a while since I've stumbled upon a blog that is utter different and intrigues me. I've found Kimchi Mamas which I think will end up on my regular blog reading list. But I must confess what caught my attention was the post on kimchi proper. And how to get that smell outta your fridge! My favorite comment was the solution of purchasing a kimchi refrigerator (!!!) which may be common but hilarious (and practical) because I've never heard of it before.
Last night's In the Flesh was my second favorite one ever (my favorite was True Confessions)! It was Memoir night and full of some great writing. I enjoyed them all and cannot emphasize enough to people to come out to the reading one month. My friend Molly said "Its not smutty. Its really smart writing and stimulates you on all sorts of levels."
A few of my favorites were:
Gael Greene who brought down the house reading from: Insatiable: Tales from a Life of Delicious Excess. This woman slept with Elvis Presley (the young Elvis!!!!) and recounted the story as we all listened with our mouths gaping open. Only in NYC can you be in a room and hear a story like that recounted in public!! But she's done far more than slept with the King. Twenty-five years ago, she co-founded Citymeals-on-Wheels to bring meals to the homebound elderly. She's had quite a life and I can't wait to get her book. Ok, one more sexual secret. She may be the only woman to have slept with two men who were simultaneously on the cover of Time Magazine.
Yes, both of them.
Gael was followed up by the edgy Grant Stoddard with his sexy British accent (god I'm a sucker for a European accent!) as he revealed a gay, golden shower adventure in his turn as sex columnist in Working Stiff: The Misadventures of an Accidental Sexpert.
Susan Shapiro read from Lighting Up. It doesn't get more neurotic than this. You just gotta read the damn book.
The evening ended with Marty Beckerman who actually pulled out a dildo (albeit the size of a finger and I hope not the one actually used) to recount his experience losing his anal virginity to his girlfriend.
After two weeks with no TV reception, I finally got my cable back (Time Warner SUCKS!). I have the president's speech on tonight (yawn). I love my life because I realized I'm half listening to his BS and reading Rachel Kramer Bussel's Lustylady blogat the same time. LOL!!!
Its already 2007 and I'm barely blog-UNblocked. I don't feel up to a 2006 year-in-review (though I promise it will come soon). I'm not my usual, excited-for-the-new-year self. I'm normally all lined up with my exciting, challenging resolutions and I'm the one person who sticks to them.
I spent a nice NYE with the boyfriend's friends in Jersey via the ferry (his car broke down). He got quiet wacky and silly at the end of the evening, his outlandish, mildly obnoxious, charming self...
I'm spending New Year's night with a cocktail (or three) and the Austin Power's movie. The musical opening sequence always cheers me when I'm feeling a bit blue. Its a doozy!
I feel utterly blog-blocked and don't know what to post about. What I really need is some time off from work over the holidays to recharge my batteries and find inspiration again.
